Yesterday I was walking Toby to Smith's and at the first intersection I had the option of crossing to the other side of the street early. In fact, the light turned green just as we got up to the corner. But I didn't cross. I decided to wait and cross at the next intersection. I don't know why I decided that.
As I continued down the sidewalk, I heard a popping noise. I looked over and saw that a truck had hit the car in front of it and the car's trunk had flown open. I saw the car pull over to the side, seemingly to stop and report the accident. But the car kept going; jumping the sidewalk, hitting a bush, and plowing through a wooden fence before finally stopping. Later on I was telling Greg about the accident and I realized that if I had crossed the street before, Toby and I could have been right in the path of that car.
It overwhelms me to think of all the countless ways Toby could get hurt. But I can't think of the accident in that way. I think the Lord helped us escape possible injury and I'm so grateful for that. We were given another day with Toby, happy and safe...
